IT Engineer at FOI
FOI, the Total Defence Research Institute, is one of Europe's leading institutes for applied research in defense and security. FOI is an authority under the Ministry of Defence, tasked with conducting research, method and technology development, and investigations to support total defense, disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. The activities are carried out on behalf of, primarily, the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). At FOI, we have about 1,400 employees, of which more than 1,000 work directly with research and development. Our competencies span the entire field from natural sciences and technology to social and political sciences.
Do you want to work with development, automation, and emulation in complex IT environments? Are you motivated by letting your technical skills contribute to research for Sweden's security? Then we have an exciting assignment for you! We offer a work-life balance, a developing work environment, and a socially important job!
About the Position
As an IT Engineer, you will be part of the team that ensures functionality, performance, and configuration in FOI's facilities for laboratory activities. Primarily, you will work with the cyber facility Crate, one of Europe's first and largest cyber facilities. Here we simulate IT environments and technical systems that integrate with cybersecurity scenarios. The purpose is to provide a controlled environment for cyber exercises, security and functionality tests, and experimental research on cyber threats.
You will work with Linux and Windows-based IT systems that are largely virtualized. You will contribute to development and automation that supports efficient use of the facilities, and you will build a good understanding of the facility's function from hardware to usage. You will work closely with our researchers to develop and execute scenarios and applications for exercises, tests, and experiments.
About the Unit
You will be part of the Cyber Training Center, which belongs to Cyber Defense and Command Technology in Linköping. The unit's main mission is to contribute to the ability of critical societal operations to withstand cyber threats. We do this by conducting and researching training and exercises in the cyber domain and by developing and managing the cyber facility Crate.
